How to Fix Slow Download Speed on a Windows 7 PC

Windows 7 might be a new operating system, but it's still prone to having slow download speeds. This is a problem which even the most advanced computer users struggle to fix and is one which can ruin your PC experience. Fortunately, there's actually quite an easy way to cure this problem for good.

The download speed of your computer is affected by two problems. The first is that the website you are downloading from is either overloaded or has a slow connection. This cannot be helped and if it's the problem you should try and look for another download server to get the files from. However, there's another problem inside Windows 7, where the 'settings' of your computer can cause your PC to have a very slow download speed.

The problem that many Windows 7 users are now seeing is the speed of their downloads to be 'throttled' by a corrupt setting inside their system. Every time you download a file, your computer is actually reading a series of settings, files and folders to help it run as smoothly and quickly as possible in being able to download the file. Not many people realize the complications that go into downloading files on Windows 7.... and it's the 'back end' features that Windows needs to use that often make the system unable to download files very quickly.

Downloading any file makes Windows 7 use a variety of different settings to help it cope with the download. A download is where your PC links to another over the Internet and then transfers a file...so details such as how long you have been connected for, how much of the file you have already downloaded, etc are all settings your PC needs to read when its processing a download.

However, it's often the case that many of those settings become damaged or corrupted, making Windows unable to load up the files it needs when it needs them. This is a big problem which is common in Windows 7 and is fixed by using a tool called a 'registry cleaner'. This is a software program that scans through the core folders of Windows and corrects any of the damaged or corrupted settings that are causing the slow download speeds. You can download one of these tools, let it scan your system and it will show you how many errors you have. It's recommended that if your PC has over 300 errors, you should let the cleaner fix all of the damaged files that it finds.
