Windows 7 Auto Shutdown? - Learn How to Troubleshoot Windows 7 Shutdown ProblemOne thing that I love about all news windows products is the remote desktop features. I previously used PCAnywhere but I find that remote desktop is now almost as good, would like to see a file transfer like PCAnywhere has, but remote desktop is free so that is a plus for it.
One of the tasks that I face with my network setup is forwarding ports through my router. There are two issues that I came across when dealing with the RDP forwarding. The first was what is the port number of RDP. With a quick search on Google I found that the standard RDP port is 3389.
Now that you have the port number you can simply go into your router and forward that port through and after enabling your remote desktop feature it will work from outside your network as long as you either know your IP address or have a dynamic dns service like I use. To enable remote desktop in Windows XP and Windows 2003 go to the start menu, find the my computer icon and right click on it. Select the properties option in the drop down list and then click on the remote tag in the window that appears. There you will see the two check boxes, check the second box, and then click on the remote user button. Make sure that the users you want to have access are in the list and then click OK until you have exitted all of the windows. RDP is now enabled on your machine.
So this simple setup would have worked for my network but the issue then became I have several servers that I want access to along with my desktop. Now I could just remote to my desktop and then remote to the other machines from there since they are all on the local network. This would create a lot of data that needed to be transferred though, with limited upstream speeds on your broadband connection you don't want this, and will cause performance issues with RDP. So I had two options, I could change the registry entry like was stated in the article. I will paste that fix here just in case that page has an issue at some point:

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. You can use the Remote Desktop feature in Windows XP Professional to connect to your computer from another, remote computer. WARNING: The Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP may not work properly if you change the listening port. To change the port that Remote Desktop listens on:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlTerminalServerWinStationsRDP-TcpPortNumber
On the Edit menu, click Modify, click Decimal, type the new port number, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: When you try to connect to this computer by using the Remote Desktop connection, you must type the new port.

The other option I had was to go into my router and specify another external port number and then point that port to the 3398 on the IP address of the machine I wanted to go to. I chose this second option as it was less time consuming and did the trick for me. One appealing thing about the ability to change the port number of RDP is security. If you leave the standard port number then anyone will know to check that port to see if you have Remote Desktop enabled and potentially compromise your network. Let me know if there are any issues with the registry fix though and if there are I will just remove it from this article.
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Port ForwardingWindows 7 Error code 10 is an error that shows on all Windows systems when you either have a driver error, or some other problem with the hardware of your system. Even though this error is continually being shown randomly on your PC, it's got a set list of causes which need to be fixed in order to get rid of the problem for good. This tutorial is going to show you how to fix error code 10 on a Windows 7 system. Here's what you need to do...
The Error code 10 error that forms on Windows 7 will typically show in this format:
The cause of the code 10 error on Windows 7 is all down to the way in which your computer is trying to use the hardware it has. The hardware of your PC are all the components you can touch, including the keyboard, hard drives and other peripherals. In order for Windows to work well with these components, it needs to be able to use "drivers" - small software applications which allow your system to use the various hardware components of your PC. The problem you're seeing is either caused by a faulty driver (which stops Windows working with your hardware), or from damaged parts of your Windows system. If you want to fix the error, you need to be able to repair all possible problems that first causes it to show.
To fix the Windows 7 error 10 on your PC, you need to first update all the drivers which may be faulty or damaged on your system. To do this, you should click onto Start > Control Panel > Device Manager, and then look for any hardware icons that have a small yellow exclamation mark by them. This will basically show you that there is a problem with the specific hardware component on your PC, and will allow you to update the driver for it. After that, you should also update Windows to its latest version, which can be done by clicking Start > All Programs > Windows Update. This will basically allow your computer to upgrade to the latest version, which should incorporate some fixes for the Windows 7 error code 10 problem.
It's also recommended that you use what's known as a "registry cleaner" program. This is a type of software that's designed to scan through your PC and fix any errors that are inside the registry database of Windows. The registry database is essentially a central storage center for all the files, settings and options that your computer needs to use each day, and is what lies at the core of every Windows system. Unfortunately, the registry is one of the biggest causes of errors on your computer, and needs to be constantly fixed to ensure it's not leading your PC to run slower or with errors. To do this, you should download a registry cleaner program from the Internet and then let it scan your PC. It will identify any possible errors inside your computer, and then fix the ones that are causing problems. This will often solve a variety of errors, and has been known to cure the Windows 7 error code 10 as well.

2. Enable Windows Updates to download and install the newest updates automatically. To configure Windows Vista to install updates automatically, click the Start button > All Programs > Windows Update > Change Settings > Install Updates Automatically. Use the drop down menu to select the time to install new updates.
3. Do not use Internet Explorer. Instead use Firefox, Opera, or Google Chrome. Hackers are more likely to attack Internet Explorer because it is the most popular browser and the highest amount of people would be affected.
4. Disable images in Outlook. The receipt of an email with infected graphics can cause a virus. Newer versions of Outlook automatically disable image previews but you can disable them by going to Tools > Trust Center > Automatic Downloads tab.
5. Install free firewall software, which can be downloaded online. Newer versions of Windows come with a firewall but it may not be turned on.
6. Have anti-virus software installed and running. Free anti-virus software, such as AVG Antivirus, is available to download online. Be sure to update it frequently.
7. Avoid using file sharing programs. These programs allow you access to millions of other computer users' files. Internet users with malicious intentions often attach malware to downloadable files. Music files such as mp3 or wav files are popular targets by those who wish to prevent the practice of "stealing" music.
8. Perform daily scans. Even with antivirus software installed, viruses can slip through. By scanning your hard drive daily for threats, viruses can be more easily and quickly detected and removed.
9. Managed Firewall. The most effective way of preventing viruses is with a managed firewall with intrusion detection and penetration testing services from Access US.

Fix Windows 7 Errors - How to Repair Windows 7 Errors EasilyThe best data recovery software you can find today is called Restore Deleted Files. With this software, you can recover data no matter how you lost it - from freeze ups which force you to reboot and lose all unsaved information, from computer crashes, and also accidental deletion. Even from viruses which make us have to erase everything and start all over again, including reinstalling Windows - Restore Deleted Files can even do its job in such a drastic case, and that is why it is the best data recovery software on the market.
But there are other reasons why Restore Deleted Files is the best data recovery software, and one of those reasons is that it doesn't matter what OS you're using. If you're using VISTA, or if you've got a dinosaur of a machine running Windows 98, it's all good with Restore Deleted Files. Another reason why it is the best data recovery software is its reach - usually, if the recycle bin has been emptied (files deleted from the recycle bin), the operating system cannot recover any files.
The files still remain on the hard drive, relatively intact, until that part of the hard drive is overwritten by another file. Restore Deleted Files finds and recovers even these files, and if these files have been partially overwritten, the retrieval software begins reconstruction of the file so that it may continue to be used. This alone is enough for me to call this work of wonder the best data recovery software available on the internet today.
